From Pretty Pink Hearts to....................

I know it's an ugly one. You don't have to try to think of something nice to say about it. I started it a few months ago and then set it aside to get through the holidays. Tonight I was finally inspired to finish it.

My plan is to use it for a Halloween table runner. I want to set a table in orange, green and purple. I still need to make four more blocks, though I doubt that they will be the exact same. I think this one deserves a special place of honor right in the middle (where it will be covered with the centerpiece!).

Heart with Rose Paper Piece Block

I just finished making this heart block.

I just love the rose in the middle.
I have had the pattern for a year or two, but it looked so difficult that it took until today before I was ready to give it a try.

I got the pattern free at Paper Panache. It was made by Bobbie Osborne. I couldn't get the hyper link to work (big thanks to Alissa for letting me know)so you can just highlight this address and paste it into your browser.

I don't know her, but I would like to thank her for providing this free pattern. I am amazed at all of the talented people out there who spend time and energy designing paper pieced patterns and then give them free for our quilting pleasure .

It's not a beginner's pattern, but if you already know how to paper piece, you should be able to finish it in about two hours. It has 54 pieces! Lots of them of tiny, tiny. That finished piece is sitting on top of a spool of thread and has 7 pieces.

You would never guess from looking at these pieces that it would finish into such a pretty Valentine block, would you? I didn't measure it, but it looks to be a 6-inch finished block.

I am not sure what I will do with it.

A Magazine I am Tempted to Get & a Farm Quilt

Have any of you read "Quilter's Home" magazine?

It sounds like something I would like, but it's $5 an issue price for a subscription seems pretty steep.

If you have read it, do you think it's worth the price?

Last February I made this paper-pieced rooster block.

I think my next piecing project will be to finish turning it into a quilt. I think it's 18 inches square and I am planning to use it as the center of a farm animal quilt. I think one border of different farm animals would be fun. If my next border was 9-inch animal blocks, I would need eight animals and perhaps 4 barns in the corners.

I am going to start looking for farm animals today. I know my Noah's Ark book has some in it.

It's always exciting to start a new project!

I Have Been Fabric Shopping Again

Look at all of this!

Each piece is 2 to 3 yards. I have no projects in mind. I just buy it because it's less than half off and so it's there when I need a certain color. Those fat quarters were just .25 each.

Have you ever seen these things?
(pic is from the Wilton site )

I was surfing the other day and came across a board where the bakers were extolling the virtues of these strips. They are supposed to make your cake bake evenly and have a nice flat top.

So I used my JoAnne 50% coupon and bought a set.

I have not used them yet. Have any of you ever used them?

I am hoping to finish machine quilting the pink star quilt this weekend. I have the walking foot on my sewing machine. It's a pain to put on so I don't want to keep changing feet, yet I am eager to start a valentine table runner. Hopefully that will inspire me to work on it a lot this weekend.

I keep visiting quilting blogs and seeing all the projects you have all made since Jan. 1. I am feeling way behind schedule!
