It's been a while since I've finished one this big.

Roses are Red, Borders are Blue I can't tell you how happy I am To be DONE quilting you! I had a mental goal to finish the hand quilting on this king-sized quilt before July 4. Here it is July 3 and I am ecstatic to say that I am finished!!! Whoo hooooooo....it feels so good. Here is a close up of the back. Go ahead and click on it so you can see all of the thousands of hand stitches. I am not claiming that they are great stitches, but I am pleased as punch that I did all of them. I started quilting this one in January '08 and I only worked on it now and then. Six months may sound like a long time, but when you consider that I often went weeks without doing any quilting, it's not so long. There is one little thing bothering me, though. That diamond shape near the top of this photo needs a bit more quilting. I will probably go back and quilt another diamond inside the first diamond. There is just too much unquilted space there. Now I have to make a binding and sew it on and...

Cute Paper-Pieced Santa Decoration

Patti, from Osage Bluff , sends me the cutest pattern links. Patti lives in the state I was born in and we seem to be so much alike that we joke we were sisters separated at birth. Patti recently sent an I-think-you-will-like-this email with this link from a site called Pinwheelponders. (fifth row, last one). And sure enough I liked it so much that I have already made it. It's super cute and super duper easy. I think it took about 15 minutes to make. Isn't he adorable? A big thank you to Pinwheelponders for giving us this pattern and to Patti for passing along the link. It also makes a very cute bag ornament for those who like to add a personal touch to their gift bags. I used a Sharpie for the facial features and a dab of white paint in the eyes. I also took a Q-tip and brushed a little pink blush on his cheeks. I am going to make a bunch more of these and decorate a small tree with them. So much fun!

I Can't Open Schmetz Needles

I pull and pull, push and push, squeeze and squeeze, and I can almost NEVER get these things opened! Is there some trick? I know the nails make it a bit more difficult, but I can hand quilt with these nails, so I certainly should be able to open a box of needles! Here is what I always have to resort to: breaking the plastic with a screwdriver. The needles fly all over the place! Surely there is a better way. Please, if you know, enlighten me! I am about to stop buying these just because I can't get them opened. I think they need to redesign the case. 3/3/10 5:00 a.m. Update : Thank you all for your help.
