Can Patchwork be Elegant?

In the words of a controversial rogue politician, "You betcha!"

This one is really making my heart sing. I am planning to make 12 of these 15-inch blocks for a Christmas tree skirt. Once again I am using a Carol Doak pattern. (Block #240 with the top star omitted and #34 fro 300 PP blocks. The gift center is block #75).

Here are the two star fabrics. Can you believe that this fabric with gold fish and elephants would be used in a Christmas project? I thought it was just the fabric needed to give a shimmer of gold throughout the secondary star fabric.
Here is a close up of one block. See the elephant legs?
A project like this with golden highlights is exactly what I had in mind when I purchased this fabric months ago. I never shy away from fabric with unusual designs. I know that once I cut it up, it will not even resemble the original pattern.

All in all I am pleased as punch with this one.

OHHHHHH! It's so beautiful, I love the little present. By the way, a package for my granddaughter got your take on using the paper and curling it for ribbon. She is 11 and she just sat there looking at it with a big smile on her face. She was so taken with the paper and the idea of it all. I gave all the credit to you! It was a beautiful package. Happy New Year!

Another wonderful block. Thanks for listing which blocks they are. It really helps to recreat your blocks. 2 QUICK questions: Are the blocks 5 inches each to equal 15inches? Have your ever used Quilters Dream Poly tablerunner batting? Its 18inches wide.
Thanks

Sally, you just made my day! I am so excited when someone lets me know they tried something I blogged about and it turned out good. I think that post about using leftover wrapping paper for a bow gets more hits than any other. Very, very few let me know if they actually made a bow from it. Thank you so much for letting me know!

Fiesta, Thank you. I was pretty excited about the block.

Hi Mattsmon, Yes, the block finishes at 15 inches wide. I am so glad posting the block numbers is helpful to you. I also do it so I can remember. I can guarantee you that by next week, I will have totally forgotten which block it was.
I have never even heard of a special batting for table runners. I will have to check that out. 18 inches would be as large as I would ever need. I like my runners to be 9 to 12 inches so they don't interfere with the place settings.

Yes, indeed! This patchwork square is ever so elegant. Love the fabric choices. The little package in the center of the square is an unexpected surprise. Just what a package should be!
Have fun with your project....Sarah
